Bag Studio
Interactive-Virtual booth for the brand Bag Studio
Almost all major exhibitions went online to avoid gatherings during the COVID19 pandemic
in 2020. Our team at Studio MESO saw an opportunity to explore a new vertical in the digital environment which included creating virtual booths for various brands. One of them was the virtual booth designed for Patodia Organics LLP which won the ‘Best Virtual Booth’ award at Indian Handicrafts and Gift Fair 2020.
Role: Customer Experience Design & Visual Design
Completed: October 2020
The Challenge
Create image and structure in a month
This opportunity allowed me to think beyond the limitations of the physical space and implement innovative concepts which would present the brand and its products in a better way. The idea was to form a connection with the customers by placing the products in places that are integral parts of their lives. The 3D graphics created as setups for each category are single coloured with line drawings to let the products standout and yet make the environment relevant and lively. Promoting an organic and sustainable lifestyle is the overarching concept for the booth.
Our goals were to:
-
Make the product intuitive and easy to use for everyone, everywhere.
-
Encourage deeper engagement with the brand.
My Role
I was responsible for the conceptualization, visual design, information structure, and product development of the virtual booth. To achieve this, I used multiple tools for creating 3D environments, 2D graphics and the final composition of the booth. The virtual booth was launched in IHGF Vitual Fair - Autumn 2020 and was further used by the client to exhibit his products on various other online platforms.
Personal Connect
Connecting to the customers on a personal level to build trust.
Virtual Store
Creating a store that is accessible to everyone and everywhere.
Sustainable
Highlighting the brands commitment to eco-friendly making.
24/7 Companion
Projecting the brand and its products as companions.
The Approach
Understanding the brand and its goals.
Bag Studio is the brainchild of the parent company Patodia Organics - a company with a legacy of over 100 years in the field of cotton textiles. The venture 'Bag Studio' offers customized promotional and packaging bags for Businesses. It stands out for its commitment to sustainability and zero wastage.
Defining the goals of the project with the client supported us in conceptualization. The client wished to sell not only the products but a brand story that the customers can relate to on a personal-level. They wanted to highlight the brand's promise to contribute to the environment to capture the younger audiences as well. Most importantly, we wanted to position the brand in a way that the customers know that they can find a product for every activity of their daily lives.
Concept
The goals defined above and the product categories to be exhibited enabled me to conceptualize the booth narrative. The categories to be showcased were - Supermarket bags, Kitchen bags, Corporate bags, and Recycled Cotton bags. The final concept was aimed at encapsulating a person's regular work-day with each category presented in different setups. As a result, we should be able to highlight the usage of the products and diversity of the product portfolio which offered bags to support all the major activities in a person's daily life.

Key Design Approach
Designing visuals that triggered the customers' memories of their routines was challenging as the setups were to act as backgrounds for the products. To ensure that the products aren't overshadowed, I opted for monochrome 3D environments that represented a supermarket, kitchen, office space and a space that's one with nature. I opted for line drawings of products to populate these spaces and bring them to life.
To establish a storyline, a mascot named ‘Leia’ is introduced at the entrance of the booth as a Bag Studio customer, who also curates the journey for the customer. The potential customer viewing the booth gets a chance to see a day in Leia’s life while learning about the multiple benefits of using Bag Studio products.

Customer Journey
As shown in the chart shown below, the virtual booth has a unidirectional flow of movement from one category to the other. The mascot and the brand are introduced at the beginning. The customer can click to enter a day in the mascot's life, starting with the display of Supermarket bags. One can click on the bags to view more information and save details. The viewer can then view the subsequent categories and switch between them as per the requirement. Each screen also offers the option to go back to the home page or view the contact details of the brand.
